Masaai children in Tanzania
Orkeeswa provides high quality education to children in remote areas of Tanzania. Their school is state of the art and the services the children recieve outside of their education are second to none. In addition to running their own school, they conduct outreach programs at local government schools to improve the quality of education being delivered in the region.
Not only does Orkeeswa provide high quality education, they also teach practical real-world problem solving, as seen below.
Form 2 chemistry students recently took part in a hands-on water filtration project, transforming classroom theory into practical life skills. Using everyday materials such as charcoal, gravel, sand, cloth, and recycled plastic bottles, students built simple filtration systems under the guidance of their teacher. While not a full purification system, the filters successfully removed visible impurities, demonstrating how low-cost, accessible materials can improve water quality for everyday use. By bringing their own materials, students strengthened their sense of ownership while applying science to real challenges in their communities.
The project emphasized environmental awareness, resourcefulness, and skills that extend far beyond the classroom. For many students who rely on dam water at home, the lesson was immediately relevant. As their teacher Amani — an Orkeeswa alum — explained, the goal was to equip students with knowledge they can apply in daily life. A follow-up will assess how many students have implemented the technique at home, reinforcing the lasting impact of practical, purpose-driven education.
