Boosting the education system, Cambodia
Seeing Beyond Borders are one of the best teach-the-teachers models we have seen. They focus on improving maths and literacy in provinces throughout Cambodia with tremendous, proven results.
Over the past 16 years, SeeBeyondBorders (SBB) has supported 250 schools, 700 teachers and 30,000 children across Cambodia. In 2026 alone, SBB is enhancing education across 4 districts, working with 48 schools, 70 school leaders, 121 teachers and 9,329 children. Through its Quality Teaching interventions in Ek Phnom district, Battambang Province, the proportion of students reaching Minimum Proficiency Levels (MPLs) in Mathematics has increased steadily from 39% in 2021 to 64% in 2024 — a 25-percentage point improvement that demonstrates sustained, system-level impact.
Similarly, SBB’s multi-year Literacy Project strengthened teachers’ professional knowledge and classroom practice, leading to a rise in students reaching Literacy MPLs from 35% in 2021 to 65% in 2023. Importantly, one year after the project concluded, results remained high at 64%, showing that improvements were embedded and sustained beyond the life of the intervention. Together, these outcomes highlight the long-term effectiveness of investing in teacher quality to drive lasting gains in student learning.
