Mama Feni’s Story

In Oebela Village on Rote Island, SurfAid is equipping local health volunteers like Mama Feni to fight malnutrition at its roots. A mother of six and Kader since 2011, she weighs children each month and supports pregnant women, helping detect stunting early. Through the Rote Malole program, new training and simple health tools have strengthened her confidence and sharpened her skills. “The training has opened my eyes… I feel more confident and capable now.”

The change is personal too. Inspired by nutrition education, Mama Feni has added more protein to her family’s meals — and her three-year-old is now sick less often. With her husband by her side, she continues her work with hope and determination, committed to building a healthier future for her village.
