Children in under-resourced schools, Egypt
Educate Me uses a combination of teacher training, school based programs and running community schools across the country to improve the quality of education being delivered in improverished areas of Egypt.
Thirteen-year-old Mervat has been part of the Educate Me program for seven years and is now in Year 6, achieving an impressive 81% last year. In the classroom, she is gentle, cooperative, and eager to learn. She listens carefully, works well with others, and readily helps her facilitator and classmates. She can read and write confidently, complete mathematical tasks, and is developing her English skills. Organised and honest, she takes care of her belongings and respects those of others. She finds joy in simple things — reading stories and colouring — small moments that allow her creativity to shine.
Yet behind her quiet determination is a painful reality. At home, Mervat endures harsh treatment, daily humiliation, and neglect of her most basic needs. Deprived of consistent care and kindness, she has found in the program a rare place of safety and encouragement. Through patient support and gentle guidance, she has begun to rebuild her confidence — learning not only academically, but emotionally. Slowly, she is opening up, connecting with her peers, and rediscovering what it feels like to be valued and supported.
